Waste management in Jyväskylä region

Managing waste in the Jyväskylä region is a joint effort. Mustankorkea Oy, a waste management company owned by municipalities, is responsible for organising the practical measures of municipal waste management. Mustankorkea Oy takes care of the collection, transportation, reception, treatment and utilisation of waste and provides advice on waste management.

The Jyväskylä Regional Waste Management Board (Jyväskylän seudun jätelautakunta) is responsible for the official waste management duties of the region. The Board decides, among other things, on waste management regulations and waste charges and monitors properties’ joining the municipal waste management system. The Board is the joint waste management authority of the municipalities of the City of Jyväskylä, Laukaa, Muurame and Toivakka.

Municipal environmental protection authorities and the ELY Centre of Central Finland are responsible for monitoring compliance with the Waste Act and waste management regulations.

Please, contact the The Jyväskylä Regional Waste Management Board when:

• you want to extend the collection interval of the mixed waste container to 8 or 12 weeks
• you want to request a change to your waste fee because your property is uninhabitable, for example
• you want to terminate waste collection services for more than 6 months
